The six-month passport rule : Your passport’s expiration date can be misleading. In the United States, you can use your passport up to the date listed inside the cover. However, many other countries are known to deny entry to travelers if their passport expires in less than six months. This is because they want to ensure you have a valid passport to return to the United States in the event of travel issues or unforeseen incidents. You should always renew your passport nine months before the actual expiration date.
